Welcome to our FAQ section!

This page addresses questions about how I work, the types of support I provide, and when it makes sense to reach out.

If something is unclear, let's start a conversation.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

I work with small and mid-sized Maine employers across all industries. I focus on workplaces where decisions have real, immediate impact on people and operations.

Do you work with businesses outside of Maine?

No. I work exclusively with Maine employers. Employment law, enforcement, and workplace culture are local, and context matters.

Are you an HR Firm?

No. I am an independent HR consultant. That means you work directly with me, not a rotating team, call center, or junior staff.

How do businesses typically use your services?

Some employers use ongoing HR support. Others reach out when a specific issue arises, such as a complaint, investigation, policy question, or difficult management decision. Many do both.

Can you step in when a situation has already escalated?

Yes. Many calls come after something has gone wrong or when an issue feels sensitive or high-risk. Early involvement helps, but support is available at any stage.

Do you handle workplace investigations?

Yes. I conduct independent, third-party workplace investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and serious workplace conflict.

Are investigations confidential?

Yes. Matters are handled discreetly and professionally. Information is shared only with those who need to know in order to address the issue appropriately.

Do you represent the employer or the employee?

I work for the employer, but my role is neutral and objective. Fairness, consistency, and proper process protect everyone involved.

Can employees contact you directly?

In some arrangements, yes. This can help surface concerns early and reduce escalation. The scope of employee access is determined by the employer.

Do you provide legal advice?

No. I am not an attorney. I provide HR guidance, risk-aware recommendations, and practical support. When legal counsel is appropriate, I will say so.

Do work with existing HR staff?

Yes. I provide senior-level HR support that can supplement internal staff as needed, including temporary coverage during leaves, additional capacity during busy periods, and mentoring or guidance for newer HR staff and managers.

How do you charge for your services?

Services are billed based on the type of support provided. Some work is project-based with a flat fee, and some is billed hourly. Ongoing support arrangements are available when appropriate. There are no long-term contracts, and either party may end the relationship at any time.

What happens if I am not sure what I need?

That is common. You do not need to diagnose the problem before reaching out. We can talk it through and determine next steps.

How do I get started?

Start by reaching out through the contact page. We will discuss what is going on and whether it makes sense to work together.

Focus on running your business, and having a life outside of it.
